Built for independent filmmakers

We designed FilmBase around the independent feature, the short, the commercial, and the music video: productions where the person building the schedule is often the person answering the phone. Building for them made it quicker for everyone, so it works just as well with a full production office behind it.

Most productions at that scale are not choosing between two professional tools. They are choosing between a professional tool and a spreadsheet somebody’s ex-colleague made in 2019, because the established software is sold in separate pieces, priced for productions with a department to run it, and taught mainly to people already working on those productions.

FilmBase puts scheduling, budgeting, script breakdown, call sheets, and storyboards in one desktop app, at a price a commercial or a short film can justify.

The schedule and the budget are the same object

This is the part a spreadsheet cannot do. Cast and crew are paid for the days they work, and those days come from your schedule, so moving a shoot day updates the budget on the spot. You are not maintaining two documents and hoping they still agree by Friday.

One click, call sheet and sides

Sides used to mean opening a screenwriting app, cutting the day’s scenes out, and saving a separate script. FilmBase builds the call sheet from the schedule and bundles the sides into the same PDF.

It runs on your own computer

FilmBase is a desktop app rather than a browser tab. Scheduling, budgeting, script breakdown, and call sheet generation all run with no connection, which matters on a stage, in a basement, or on a location where the signal drops to nothing. Projects are files on the user’s own computer.

Two things do reach the network, and it is worth being straight about them: call sheet weather needs a GPS pin on the location and a connection, and the subscription check runs against the store the license came from.
